I’m Annemarie Schumacher, an artist, designer and project manager working from my studio in Berlin-Wedding.
I earned my degrees in graphic design and arts education in Amsterdam, where I’m from. Since, I have created work in a broad range of creative disciplines. I’ve done web design, print design, branding and identity, book layout, signage, infographics and editorial illustration for companies in the fields of science, arts & culture and travel. My self-initiated work exploring the human face became a collection of art prints.
After first arriving in Berlin I focused on education, teaching drawing and lettering workshops all over the city. Through various side projects, I have always been involved in community work as well. I have organised and managed projects, conferences and events, empowering other creatives to establish their own teaching practices. More recently I’ve been working as an internship coordinator, providing dutch students with exciting work experiences in Berlin, and being their main point of contact during their time here.
I’ve been working as an independent creative since 2009. But when I think about the projects that have given me the most satisfaction, it’s been those where I have collaborated with others. I very much enjoy working with and supporting the unique perspective and skills of others, so that we can come to the best final result. When a project has been concluded successfully, there is no better feeling than sharing this sense of accomplishment with your teammates. I am a good communicator and respond well to feedback. But, I’m equally able to state my opinion and back it up with argumentation. An opportunity to learn new tools or skills always excites me.
I am an empath with high emotional intelligence. I am also very analytical and structured. As a mother of two children, I have learned how to organise and keep track of all that needs to be done to keep mine and their lives running smoothly. I keep a good overview over a project scope and can plan to make sure that everything gets done on time, and that my teammates are also on the right track.
Outside of work, my interests include pop-culture and music, feminism, drawing and collage, and spending time outdoors with my kids and partner.
